Upgrading an existing Linux distribution to another is an important part of system administration. No version of any distribution is supported forever so it does become necessary to perform a complete version upgrade.

This chapter covers information related to that process.

The preupgrade RPM

In current versions of Fedora Linux, circa Fedora 10, there is a new RPM that is made available to facilitate Internet-based upgrades of Fedora Linux computers. This can make version upgrades much easier and they can be done remotely as well. There is no longer any need to be physically present to upgrade a Fedora Linux computer. Preupgrade procedures will also be covered in this chapter.
